Yes I've noticed...

I'm the king of run-on sentences. Sorry. Keeping it brief from now on.

Adoption Update: Meet John G.

For those of you who might be wondering, one of the things I mentioned when I started this blog was that I was opening the files on my adoption. A few weeks ago, I actually got the files opened by the state and have been going through them.

I've found out some interesting things, not all of which I feel I should make public, but all of which I found very enlightening and occasionally overwhelming enough I'd just have to stop and let things sink in before I could continue. Bearing in mind I don't want to put information online that would be compromising for my "natural mother" (to use the legal term), I did find out some interesting bits of info that I'm willing to share:

• I was born with the name John G. (last name withheld).
• My natural mother was young and not prepared to BE a mother, so she gave me up for adoption (and I am grateful for the hard decision she had to make).
• My natural father likely doesn't even know I exist.
• I was called "Carter" in the brief stint I had in foster care.

Let me tell you, nothing is trippier than finding out you had another name when you were born. It's kind of cool though. The friends that I have told say it sounds like an awesome ailas to have if I choose to become a secret agent or an actor. Or both (I'm keeping my options open).

As far as my natural parents go, even if I could find these people through various searches on the internet, I legally cannot contact them myself. I have started proceedings to attempt to make contact through the state. They may want to reciprocate, they may not. We'll see...

Please be praying for my family (both the Hunters and my natural mother's) as it's a very sensitive situation. Mom & Dad have been super-supportive, as has Braxton and of course Jen. I don't know what to expect from my natural parents, but I respect any decision they make.

I'll fill you in on more info as this continues.

We got a slab! Then we got a hotdog!

The house-building is starting to move into high gear! In case you didn't know, Jen and I bought a townhome in the Oak Hill subdivision, off Edmonson kinda wedged between Nipper's Corner and Crieve Hall. We decided on July 4th to not go back for a month. When we went back last week, a lot of prep work had started and the building next to ours was completely framed up. Now, the slab has been poured and we can walk around and really get a feel for the size of the backyard, etc. It's weird to be walking around in the footprint of our new place finally, but we're definitely starting to get ready to move in.

While we were out & about today, we decided to see if "The Dog" (a popular hot dog place here in Nashville) had opened their new location near Hillsboro Village. They did! We were actually the third customers there EVER, which was a kick. The location is great, the patio is very nice and the food is great. Another place I'm highly recommending here in Nashville!

Twitter-pated

Okay, so there's a few of you out there who keep up with my daily where-abouts on that little menu on the right-hand side of the blog here. That's a link to something called "Twitter". What's Twitter, you say? It's a micro-blogging service that I and thousands of people use daily to chat, share news, links, tips and just vent about our day in a virtual public forum. Someone else called it the "party line for the 21st century". But instead of me trying to talk about it, here's a link to an article the Tennessean ran yesterday on this service. I highly recommend it to everyone, especially if you have mobile devices like a Blackberry or and iPhone.

Take a look and sign up today!

Photo of the Day (not for the squeamish)

La-la-la-la-la! Here's Chad's happy fun happy blog of happiness and... HOLY CRAP!!!! What is that?!?!?!?!?!?

My friend Keith got a couple of his fingers caught in a table saw a couple of weeks ago while building cabinets for his new house. Here's how it looks, the day before he gets the stitches out.

Now what's for dinner?

Got Jen an iPhone, but I'm stopping short at getting her a goat.

Over the past couple of weekends, we've had more time together than usual, and we've been making the best of it. As Jen mentioned on her blog, last Saturday we went to "It's All About Goats" at the Ellington Agricultural Center. She just LOVES goats. We had the chance to meet Michael, Greta, Adam and Tara out there too. Goats bringing the family together...

Afterward we took a stroll through the barn and saw the horses that Metro Police ride on being tended too. Then we took a stroll through an Agricultural museum they have on property, which had some pretty flowers outside. They keep a small beehive inside and you can see the bees making honey. All this cool stuff in our "backyard" and I had no idea.

Sunday I saw The Dark Knight for a second time, and I could easily go see it for a third. Amazing movie. Wednesday, we met my folks for dinner at Pei Wei to celebrate my Mom's birthday and we gave her a box of Xoconochco chocolates. It was so hard to give them away, but I knew she would love it. Thursday, I used my superpowers to get a water bottle and Full Throttle can wedged inside a Coke machine at the mall. Sometimes I amaze myself. I also found a pillow at the Disney Store with a message that I'm sure everyone would agree on. I almost bought the pillow myself. I don't know who the photo of the curly-haired girl is on it though.

Speaking of High School Musicals (awww.... I gave away that I knew who that was) I got inundated with emails from old High School classmates as we ready for our 20th reunion. It's funny... everyone's reconnecting on Facebook (how 21st century of us) and it's really cool to see what everyone's up to!

Finally, I got up WAAAYY early on Saturday and made my way down to the Apple Store and finally was able to get Jen an iPhone 3G! The mall was even crazier than usual because of "Tax-Free Weekend" here in Tennessee (which included computers), but I got my claim check for the iPhone shortly after the store opened. About an hour later, I walked out of the store with Jen's new phone. I raced home and BARELY caught her before she left for work. She had kind of figured it out when she turned on her phone and it said the SIM card was no longer active, but that was okay. She was still happy!

Next weekend should be even more fun as they are starting to break ground on our house. We've avoided going over there for almost a month, so I'm excited to see the progress. But that's for another post.

Enjoy the pictures!
